About Dr. Demetrios Louis

Demetrios Louis, MD, DABA, DABAPM, is a skilled pain management specialist at Innovative Pain Specialists in Arlington Heights and Libertyville, Illinois. Dr. Louis is a lifelong Chicagoan who grew up on the North Shore of Chicago. He attended both Cornell University and Michigan State University, ultimately receiving an undergraduate degree in Physiology. Following graduation, he returned home to pursue advanced studies in Physiology and Biophysics at the University of Illinois. Thereupon, he received his medical degree at St. Matthew's University, where he graduated top of his class. After completing medical school, Dr. Louis returned back to Chicago and started his internship in General Surgery at Rush University Medical Center. At Rush, he was also involved in extensive research in General Surgery and Pain Medicine, helping create protocols for fast-tracking surgical patients in the postoperative period. Dr. Louis then completed a residency in Anesthesiology at Rush University Medical Center.

Subsequently, he left Chicago for Boston in order to complete a fellowship in Interventional Pain Medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital of Harvard University, one of the world's most prestigious pain medicine programs. Upon completing his fellowship, he spent one year in Boston at a teaching affiliate of Tufts University, where he practiced Interventional Pain Medicine and Anesthesiology. His ambition to provide comprehensive and quality care for his community motivated Dr. Louis to return back home to Chicago to start a practice in Interventional Pain Medicine with his friend and colleague Dr. Paul Marsiglia at Innovative Pain Specialists. Dr. Louis has considerable interest in all pain disorders converging and implementing the latest interventions and techniques to help treat patients with both acute and chronic pain. In addition, he serves on the medical staff of Northwest Community Hospital, where he is actively involved in treating patients with pain. He is double board-certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology in Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine.

Outside of work, Dr. Louis likes to spend his time watching Chicago sports, playing sports, traveling, cartography, and being with his family.
