Hailing from Southeast Michigan, Dr. Otten's journey to becoming a prominent figure in the medical community was far from conventional. Despite his early penchant for science and math, his high school days were colored by a rebellious streak. However, his academic prowess and passion for athletics paved the way for a transformative opportunity when a Navy recruiter came knocking while he was working at BASF.
Thus began his odyssey in the military medical school program, where he seamlessly transitioned from being commissioned to embarking on his medical education journey. His tenure as a flight surgeon in the Navy provided a springboard for his eventual specialization in general surgery and later, his discovery of his true calling in family medicine.
